Kandi is a wife, mom of five, teacher, artist and author. In her free time, she enjoys writing fantasy, writing Christmas programs, drawing using graphite and colored pencils. Portraits are her specialty.
She also enjoys photography. Thank you to her photographer husband who has let her join his journey in photography as well. She is both his model and apprentice. (She still think he does a better job than her.) On occasion she’s his assistant when working with clients and when he needs a “light stand with feet”. Come check out her work. About the Books
In search of his place in the world, Kyn visits his new friend, Ben’hyamene. Together, they meet an ailing dragon rider from the marshes of a land called the Carr. The rider recounts a people beset by anger, depression, and despair. After befriending and healing the rider, the group travels to the rider’s home. There they discover a breed of wild dragons, called drakes, which have been at war with humans for four hundred years.
One sleepless night, Ben’hyamene uses his new abilities to communicate with the lead drake. This sets Kyn and Ben’hyamene on a path that could bring peace to a conflict that’s nearly destroyed a whole people. Can revenge be set aside and enemies be called friends?

Where were you born, and what was it like growing up there?
I was born in the canyon of Woolpren in my parents’ abode behind the General Store. I loved the sights and smells of the store. I’d spend hours on end during the cold winter moon cycles sitting near the wood stove listening to farmers and villagers shoot the breeze. During the summer moons I would help Da in the store. I’d stock shelves, clean floors, and wait on customers.
Who do you most admire in your world? Why?
I have met many people in life, but none has influenced me more than my trainer, Ruskya. He was the first to believe in me when I was a youngling who had seen but twelve winters. He taught me all I know about being a rider. Then his wife has taught me everything I know about being a healer. They accepted me into their family. I am called Uncle Kyn by their five little ones. That is the best praise I could ever have.
Tell us a little about your world, and where you fit in?
My world is a world where dragons and people live in harmony. We help each other. I live north of the inland sea. I have friends who live south of the sea near a town called Boeskay. A thriving dragon colony is lead by Cerulean. They have bluish-green dragons in Boeskay. To the east of the inland sea lies the sandhills of the El’Shad’n. My good friend, Braidyn, leads this nomadic dragon colony with green dragons. I have just discovered red dragons exist! To the west of the inland sea mountains form boundaries for a river where wild dragons dwell. Here dragons and people have been at war for over five hundred winters! A newfound friend, Ben’hyamene and I had a wonderful adventure where we learned to love that land of water.
Do you have a close relationship with your family?
I am the only son in a family of five girls. My parents longed for a boy. Finally after many winters I was born. I was adored by everyone. My older sisters though were pretty much already out of the abode and had lives of their own when I was born; so, I didn’t really get to know them well. Ma and Da though doted on me. I love them very much. Unlike many youngling dragon riders, I was able to spend time with my parents even after becoming a dragon rider. To this day, I still swing in every few days to say hi and check in on them.
Where is the best place to visit in your world? What places should visitors avoid?
Hm, this is a hard question. There are so many wonderful places in my world. There’s my home in Three Spans Canyon where the dragon riders dwell, the river and farmland of Boeskay, the sandhills of the El’Shad’n, and the meandering overflowing river valley of the Carr. All have their own unique characteristics. Visitors should enjoy all of them.
Do be careful not to invade the privacy of the wild dragons, or drakes, that live in the Carr. They would not hesitate to fry you to a crisp or pick you up in their talons and cart you off some place. You don’t want to be out in the winter around my home when a storm comes in. You wouldn’t survive. We’ve holed up in the abode for days on end while the wind howled and the snow flew. Finally, you’ll want to take care to have water and not get lost in the sandhills. Without water in that region you’d dry up and die really quick.
Do you have any hobbies? What are they?
I love to garden. I grow my own herbs and make tisanes out of them. A tisane is like a tea, but tea is made from specific leaves. My favorite tisane uses mint, lemongrass, chamomile, and honey. It is very relaxing.
I also enjoy roaming the country for herbs. I’ll have Wylen, my dragon, fly over an area while I search for plants to add to Carryl’s greenhouse. Sometimes, I gather fresh herbs for my meal.
What kind of clothing do you prefer to wear?
I am most comfortable in knee length boots. They have a low heel. These are amazing for walking spans upon spans all day long. A simple tunic and loose pants complete my outfit. In the winter, we use skins and a cloak.
What was the most exciting adventure you’ve ever been on?
I’d have to say the most exciting adventure would be when Braidyn suggested I look up his brother-in-law, Ben’hyamene. Ben’hyamene and I met a rider from the Carr who invited us to visit his home. What we found there rocked my worldview. I grew up and found who I am. You’ll have to check out Dragon’s Revenge. Kandi J Wyatt wrote it down for me.
If you could change something about yourself, what would it be? Why?
I would have my twin back. You see, my mom used an herb to help her conceive me. That herb caused her to have twins. My twin died when we were just young. I really have no memories of him, but I know he existed. All my life I have lived as if there was a part of me missing. I gained a glimpse of what it would have been like when I was around Ben’hyamene. I wish I could have really known my twin brother.
Would you ever or have you ever lied? How do you feel about lying?
I have never consciously lied. There may have been some when I was a youngling, but lying is wrong. I know some who think it is okay to lie to spare someone’s feelings, but think about it. If I start to lie, then who would know that my word is worth anything? When would they know when I was telling the truth or not? A dragon rider’s word is to be truthful.
