Note: Please keep in mind that this novella is still going through the editing process. As I mentioned previously, I’ve rearranged the chapters. So even though this is Chapter 8, it immediately follows the events of the last chapter I posted. Thanks for reading and sorry for any confusion!
It was just before dawn by the time I returned to Appolia. Since Kado worked closely with the Coalition, I knew he’d likely make regular visits to the Council Hall, so I set up surveillance cameras around the parking lot. The cameras were so small they would not be spotted, and I could control them remotely. I needed to hurry, though. People would arrive soon to start their workday.
Kado owned a hydrocar, so the best way to find out where he lived now would be to track his vehicle. I finished just as the sky began to lighten and shifted to my perch on the hill overlooking the city. It was far enough away that Kado shouldn’t sense me, but close enough that I could watch the feed from the cameras on my handheld.
I watched as people began arriving, scanning the feed closely for Kado’s vehicle. He arrived moments later. I waited until he went inside and shifted to the site of his vehicle. I would need to be quick because I was close enough for him to sense me know, and I knew he’d likely be in high alert after what happened the day before. I attached the tracer to the underside of his hydrocar where he’d be least likely to look for something. It required me to climb under the vehicle.
