I let the trooper fall to the ground and ran toward the tent entrance, the bloodied knife still in my hand. Two Dansig Troopers blocked the way, their weapons pointed right at me. I dropped the knife and placed my hands on my head. If they shot me, I was done. I’d never escape.
“Hold your fire,” the higher ranking trooper said.
At least he seemed level-headed, and he wasn’t glaring at me. He might not be kind to me, but I might be able to reason with him long enough to plan an escape. At least that was the plan until his gaze fell onto the dead trooper and he scowled at me.
“You’re going to pay for what you’ve done,” he said.
“He was about to rape Cali. He deserved to die.”
