Weekly Fantasy Fix: NaNoWriMo is Coming!

Weekly Fantasy Fix

Writing is easy, right? Hemingway said, we only must sit down at a typewriter and bleed. I suspect he was partially right. But the bleeding part is easy; it’s bringing the knife to your skin that’s hard.

From November 1st to November 30th, the National Novel Writing Month, shortened to NaNoWriMo, will commence to help you draw blood. Maybe that is a bit graphic. Nonetheless, the starting gun will fire and thousands of writers will set off to write 50,000 words or more during the month. The point of NaNoWriMo is to make a writer write, by offering what many authors seek, the encouragement from like-minded writers. We wish them the best of luck!

Have you joined a camp?

Now, I do not think writing a novel under the umbrella of NaNoWriMo makes anyone an author anymore than I think taking a selfie makes anyone a photographer, but the purpose of the project makes it worthwhile all the same. Certainly, starting that first word and that first sentence is one of the most difficult parts of writing. The folks at NaNoWriMo would encourage you to start prepping for your novel writing in November as soon as possible.

If you are looking for a place to get started, you can join the masterminds of NaNoWriMo on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 2 PM EST on Twitter for their first #NaNoPrep tweet-chat of the year. It’s a free-wheeling conversation about getting ready to write 50,000 words in 30 days.
