#YouTube Tuesday – IBPA Recap: The World of Fan Fiction

If you love to write fan fiction, you need to see this!

This one also got me thinking about what I’ll allow when people ask to write fan fiction of my work. It hasn’t happened yet, but when it does, I should probably be prepared.

What do you think are fair rules for fan fiction? (Share your thoughts below)

I started out writing Star Wars fan fiction for years but it was not done in public. Being able to write in the universe I loved made me love and buy Star Wars more so it fuel me as consumer of Star Wars, so it was good for them too. I think you have to be careful. Back in the day I know Anne McCaffrey came down hard on those who wrote fan fiction so it is definitely something to be careful about if you publish it in a public domain even for free. Great video.

Yeah, I did it in private as well. Well, sort of. Some friends and I used to do an email based Star Wars role playing game, which was really like an ongoing collaborative story in the Star Wars universe. I wouldn’t care if anyone wrote fan fiction with my stories. I think I’d have rules about it, but I think it would be cool! I’d take it as a compliment if a fan wanted to write fan fiction. I don’t understand why some authors are so against it. I could see if they were making money off of it, but it’s just for fun.
