How to choose a good music teacher?
It does not matter whether we want to learn to play the guitar, keyboard, piano or any other instrument.
In any case, it is worth investing in a professional teacher, who will guide you through the ins and outs of music knowledge in small but effective steps. The question is how to find it? What qualities to look for?
Why learn under the guidance of an experienced teacher?
The first and perhaps most important reason to learn and improve musical skills is to save time. If you have your own, well-qualified teacher, you can be sure that he or she will give you proper guidance at every step, as to the mistakes you make and how to eliminate them. This is important, because acquiring bad habits can not only slow down musical development, but also stop it altogether. Learning from books or the Internet, unfortunately, does not give the possibility of verifying the acquired skills.
The ideal teacher, or what kind of teacher?
It’s been said a lot that choosing a good teacher for guitar lessons is the quintessential part of success. The question is where to look for it? What to pay attention to? First of all, it is important to realize that there is no one teacher who can guide students in every style of music. That is, a heavy metal guitarist with a rich artistic background is probably not going to be the best person to teach the blues. In this case, it is worth looking for a teacher who not only can play this type of songs, but also is perfectly familiar with this musical genre. What else is worth paying attention to? A good teacher is one who is driven by passion. And not just for music, but also teaching. He/she is characterized by the knowledge of textbooks, but above all practical knowledge, with careful attention to all the technical aspects of playing a particular instrument. A teacher with a vocation must be patient and able to motivate. If he/she shows any shortcomings in this area, and can quickly become irritated by the student’s failures, this is not the best basis for developing musical abilities. A good teacher must be able to convey information in a clear and understandable way and be sure that what he or she says to a student is clear to him or her and can be the basis for independent learning at home. It is also important to have the ability to adapt the program to the student’s interests and expectations (possibly modifying it in case the educational progress stops).
